Raised in St. John's, Newfoundland, Bageshree initially trained in Bharatha Natyam, completing her Arangetram in 1988, before later studying in Mumbai with the late Guru T. K. Mahalingam Pillai. She also studied Kuchipudi dance in Mumbai at Guru Vempati Chinna Satyam's Academy of Kuchipudi dance. Bageshree also studied vocal music with her father, Damodar Vaze. In 1998, Bageshree began training in Kathak dance with Jai Kishan Maharaj in New Delhi, and studied vocal music with the renowned Veena Sahasrabuddhe. With her vast knowledge and expertise in Indian dance traditions, Bageshree has two CDs to her credit, including her latest, Tarana, a breakthrough album of music for Indian dance, which was also released in India by Times Music. Bageshree holds an M.A. in Dance from York University, and was named an MTV India ubbharta sitara (rising star) in 2004. In 2009, Bageshree was featured as a guest artist with the Niagara Symphony Orchestra, and one of her vocal/dance concerts was aired on CBC Radio One's Concerts on Demand. Having recently performed in New Delhi at the festival organized by the living legend of Kathak, Pt. Birju Maharaj, Bageshree continues to teach and perform in Toronto, is recording a third CD, and working on a new solo choreography entitled 9 that will be featured as part of Harbourfront Centre's NextSteps series in May 2011.
